Amy Ewan

Between 2008 – 2016, Amy was the Principal euphonium player for the North East Hampshire Area Schools Band and also the solo baritone for the Hampshire County Youth Brass Band. In 2015, she was awarded the George Hellar Musician’s Scholarship, alongside representing her county as a Hampshire Music Hub Scholar. This led her to study the Baritone Horn at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2016, under the tutorage of Matthew White and Philippe Schwartz. She joined the world famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band in May 2019, where she performed in prestigious venues such as Symphony Hall, Royal Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. She is most recently heard on BBC Children in Need charity album ‘Got it Covered’. In January 2020, she joined Brighouse and Rastrick on solo baritone, where she continues to perform solos in prestigious venues and events. Also in January 2020, Amy appeared as a guest soloist alongside Peter Moore and Philip Cobb at the Great Birmingham Brass Festival where she performed Peter Graham’s Concerto for Baritone. Amy is the founding member of tuba quartet, When Tuba Come One, current holders of the prestigious ITEA Ensemble Competition 2019 title and Bernard Brown Brass Ensemble Prize 2020. Alongside performing chamber groups, Amy also enjoys performing her baritone across a large range of genres, such as Pop and Folk with the Ollie West Band, and most recently orchestral, alongside the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in Birmingham Opera Company's 2019 production, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk. Together with performing, Amy is enthusiastic about Arts Administration and management. She has utilised her four years of studying at a Conservatoire by gaining work experience and freelancing in many prestigious UK orchestras and organisations, including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Isobel Griffiths Limited, BBC National Orchestra Chorus of Wales and the Birmingham Opera Company. She is currently the Head of Brass, Amos Miller’s assistant and also holds the responsibilities of the Department Administration Assistant for the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’s Administration Team.
